Opportunities for Kindness
Sycamore Bridges is working with Sycamore Community Schools on a major mental health initiative to provide “calming boxes” in all 216 elementary classrooms. The boxes will contain a variety of stress-relieving items designed to reduce anxiety and offer support for children who would benefit from redirection. The boxes also give teachers additional tools to make sure all students feel comfortable in the classroom. Each item was carefully selected by our team of school counselors. Through a generous grant, we have the boxes nearly full for the start of school! With your help, we are hoping to add weighted lap pads ($35/pad) to each calming box. Weighted lap pads are sensory tools that promote regulation, calming, and refocusing without disrupting classroom instruction. If you would like to contribute to this large-scale district initiative, CLICK HERE and type “Calming Box” in your note.
Recently Filled Needs
Partial Rent Assistance
Sycamore Bridges is assisting a single mom of 5 kids with a partial rent payment this month. Her children’s father passed away from cancer and she is raising her kids alone. Due to a vehicle issue, Mom is starting a new job that is within walking distance to her home. However, she won’t receive her first paycheck before rent is due. She is short $630 this month. If you would like to offer assistance, respond to this post and donation instructions will be emailed to you.
Therapy Sessions for Student
Sycamore Bridges was contacted by our district social worker to assist a family in obtaining much-needed therapy sessions for their child. The family's insurance covers a portion of the expense, but they are unable to afford the difference at this time. We have negotiated a reduced rate with Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center to make sure the child receives the help they need through the summer. Through a generous grant, we are able to cover the therapy sessions without reaching out to the public. This need was filled before being posted.
Rent Assistance for Single Mom
Sycamore Bridges was contacted by a community advocate to assist a single mother of six children with rent. Mom has been dealing with some ongoing health challenges and is need of help due to lost income during medical leave from work over the past few months. We are collecting $1095 to help relieve her immediate financial burden. If you would like to make a contribution, reply to this post and a donation link will be emailed to you.
Sudden Death in Family
One of our Sycamore families with 4 children in the district just experienced an unexpected and traumatic loss in their family. They are currently seeking comfort in being together and focusing on healing. As mom struggles to support her own needs and those of her children, she identified gas costs and family meals as items that would help relieve some of her immediate burden. We are requesting donations to purchase Chipotle, Taco Bell (the kids' favorites) and Speedway gift cards. We anticipate additional needs in the future, but we hope to provide $300 worth of gift cards now. If you would like to make a donation, reply to this post and donation instructions will be emailed to you.
Sycamore Bridges is assisting the family of a 23-year-old Sycamore HS alum who tragically lost his life in a boating accident near Panama City, Florida. His Blue Ash family had to travel to Florida for his cremation and to retrieve his belongings. With inflated prices and this unexpected expense, they are seeking assistance to pay for their hotel, gas money, and the cremation, totaling $3,000. If you would like to offer assistance, please CLICK HERE and type “Sycamore Alum” in your note. Please share this post with friends and neighbors so we can bring peace to the family of this young man.
Summer Camp Experience
Sycamore Bridges was contacted by a school administrator to help send an elementary student to basketball camp for a week. The student’s teachers and therapist agree that participation in this camp will have a positive impact on the student’s confidence and self-esteem. The cost is $170. If you would like to contribute, reply to this post and donation instructions will be emailed to you.
